Movie Review: Breaking News (2004)

Since Anders Banke, director of the Swedish vampire hit FROSTBITE (aka FROSTBITTEN), has directed a Russian remake known as NEWSMAKERS (2009), why not have a look at the Hong Kong original?

In the middle of the 2004 Cannes Festival, BREAKING NEWS (Daai si gin) was suddenly thrown into the official choice – albeit out of competition. Positive, it was fairly cool to suddenly find a Hong Kong actioner in that section, especially considering that I got to see it in the huge Grand Lumière theater. But following having noticed it, I wondered how the hell this movie ended up finding selected for this prestigious section.

When it comes to director Johnnie To, you by no means know what you get. At times he makes highly entertaining, instant classics like HEROIC TRIO (1993), whilst he sometimes makes completely uninteresting movies. BREAKING NEWS ends up somewhere just below an average To flick.

Cops are chasing a gang of bank robbers and locate them in a large apartment creating. In some type of attempt to criticize or possibly parody today’s media climate, the pursuit of the robbers is aired live on Television like a reality show – but the satire disappears amongst all the gunfire and weird, silly comedy. There certain is a lot of action. The film opens with a completely extraordinary gunfight in a street à la HEAT, it’s a very lengthy scene without any cuts instead the steadicam just floats around the men and women involved in the shoot-out, and it need to have taken an eternity to stage this. Guns are fired each now and then all through the movie, and positive, it is well done and nicely choreographed, but it gets tiring and uinteresting. At times a guy shows up and farts.

It is possible I’d feel the film was greater had I watched it on DVD at home even though eating low-cost candy. But I didn’t. I saw it at Cannes. And I expected much more from Johnnie To.

Anders Banke’s version is stated to be greater.

The Angel Movies

You usually in no way anticipate low budget movies to become hit at the box office that easily. But very couple of movies manage to do that. “Angel” is a movie of that caliber that managed to do that.

Angel

The movie “Angel” was released in the year 1984. Robert Vincent O’Neill directed the movie. The director was also the writer of the movie along with Joseph Michael Cala.

Donna Wilkes, playing the role of Molly Stuart, studies at an costly high school. Bet she has two lives of a student and of a prostitute. The name that she had as the prostitute was “angel”. She became a prostitute simply because she was abandoned by her parents. She lived in a substitute house that was filled with “personalities” – a transvestite, a lesbian and a self proclaimed celebrity.

It so happened 1 day that her classmates found out that she was working as a prostitute by the night. Her world gets shattered by that and she loses her school. Every thing around her gets poor and as if it is not the end of the road for the miseries, she gets stuck with another major one this time. Two of her fellow prostitutes get killed by a psycho serial killer. She becomes the only eyewitness and along with that an automatic target. What occurs then you have to see that in the movie itself.

Views and Facts

The movie was very well-liked at that time and became a hit. Well it got so common that it had 3 sequels hitting the theatres soon after that.

The lead actress of the movie, Donna Wilkes, was a lot older when she played the role of that of the fifteen year old Molly Stuart. She also did a bit of analysis with the prostitutes and the police department just before doing the movie.

Cliff Gorman, Rory Calhoun, John Diehl, Susan Tyrell and Dick Shawn had been in other essential roles in the movie.

Avenging Angel

It is the sequel to the previous movie “Angel”. It was known as as a sequel as it has the continuation of the previous story and some of the previous characters. But the lead actress was changed this time. From Donna Wilkes to Betsy Russell the change was not that excellent. And to be honest, the acting this time was quite poor.

The movie starts with Betsy Russell, playing the lead role as Molly Stuart grown up. This time she has quit the world of prostitution with the help of her friend Lt. Andrews. She is now studying had to become a lawyer. Every little thing seems to be going smooth till when she gets the news that Lt. Andrews has been killed. Now she feels that she has to avenge his friend’s death so she returns back to that world. Here with the assist of some old pals she tries to locate out who was the killer. To know the rest of the story you have to see the full of the movie.

Regardless of the significant plot the movie will at times make 1 feel that this is a comedy movie. Nicely I would rather say that this is an average movie and is not for the children to watch as it has a lot of violence and nudity in it.

Angel III: the final chapter

Well this is the third movie in the sequence. This time too there is a alter in the lead. In this movie Mitzi Kapture plays the lead role.

This movie shows that Molly has now quit studies and works as a news photographer. Issues go smoothly until she learns that her lengthy gone mother is an owner of a art gallery. Then right after that after their meeting her mother gets blown up and later she gets to know that her mother was transporting dope. Now the life of her sister gets into danger. This time again she returns to that old world of her to rescue her sister. Nicely what did she manage to do? You have to see the movie to know the rest of the story.

This movie had a better star cast that the initial two movies but the performances were not that excellent. Despite the fact that the movie was a lot far better than the second movie but it was nowhere near the first 1. But still this is an average movie.
